The new Wine Tasting group was launched in March 2023 with 10 members having signed up. An initial meeting was held where the roles were delegated to 4 of the members, with Chris Smith leading.
Chris’s report:
We held our first wine tasting on the 11th May with seven members attending. A jolly time was had by all, as we tasted four white and three red wines from Italy, accompanied by information about each of them.
We had a break after tasting the white wines, and sampled a variety of cheeses and then continued with the red wines. The favourite white wine was Pecorino at £7 per bottle form the Tesco Finest range and the worst (only suitable for coking) was the Soave Superior wine at £6 per bottle from Asda. It was a unanimous decision that the Montepulciana d’Abruzzo was the favourite red wine. This can only be purchased via Naked Wines at £9.50. However, if you were to go to the National u3a page and click on the “click and save” icon, under the “News” heading you can get a 9% discount upon subscribing to Naked Wines.
We also had a short discussion on where to go for our first group visit. Thank you to Carol for doing such an excellent job in researching local vineyards and wine merchants.
