Relax, Sit back, Listen and discuss music from a variety of Genres
The Limebrook Music Appreciation group was created around 11 years ago when members who were interested got together following a main meeting at the West Maldon Community Centre. We currently have 7 members most of whom are founder members of the group. Membership is limited due to the space available in my lounge which allows us all to listen in comfort. Our aim has been and is going forward to share our various interests in music whilst enjoying a drink and a natter mid morning. We meet on the second Friday of the month between 10am and 12pm when we listen to a varied selection of music by composers and song writers from around the world dating from the 14th to the 21st century.
We have found that by using the internet and YouTube we are able to choose from an infinite selection of excellent music. Each month I carefully audition various music and video items from YouTube. Once I have chosen the best examples of each work I create playlist link in YouTube which I email to the members. By clicking this link a member is taken directly to my playlist for the month, I also email a printable playlist that members can bring with them to the meeting for reference. I encourage members to select examples of their favourite music for inclusion in the meeting. I also regularly receive feedback from the group telling me which items from the list had been their favourites.
Over the years we have introduced ourselves to the music of many composers previously little known to us, often listening to obscure musical instruments throughout the ages with strange names and shapes with interesting sounds. The group intends to continue exploring the world of composers and their music, discovering many forgotten masterpieces as we explore further.
